Booking a doctor or dentist is the kind of small job that eats a morning: finding when the office is open, waiting to get through, then juggling their free slots against your calendar. Whether an AI can do it for you depends mostly on how your doctor's office takes bookings. Here's what works as of September 2026, from the fastest option to the one that needs a phone call. If your doctor books online

Zocdoc lists thousands of practices you can book directly. Since August 2026, US adults can also book Zocdoc appointments from inside the Gemini app (PR Newswire).

MyChart, the patient portal many health systems use, lets you book some visits yourself and request others, depending on the visit type and your health system's rules. On the call it introduces itself as your AI assistant, asks for a time, can check your calendar while it's on the line, and adds the appointment when the office confirms. If you told it to check with you, it can text you a quick question mid-call. If nobody answers, it leaves a voicemail. Afterwards it keeps a transcript, so you can ask how it went.

It has real limits for this job. Arlo can't press through a phone menu, so an office line that starts with "press 1 for appointments" won't get through, and it isn't built to wait on hold. It calls US and Canadian numbers only, and calls end after 20 minutes. It works best with smaller practices where a person answers the phone.

Privacy and what the office will ask

HIPAA covers doctors' offices that handle billing electronically, and the vendors they hire, not an assistant you hire yourself to make the call (CMS). Offices are careful about what they discuss with anyone other than you, so expect questions about who's calling. Booking a time rarely needs medical details.
