Can an AI cancel subscriptions or negotiate bills for you?

Cancelling a subscription should take one click. It usually takes a login you've forgotten, a "are you sure?" screen, and sometimes a phone call. Lowering a cable or phone bill takes a phone call, a hold queue and some patience. A few services now do this for you, and they charge for it. Here's what's available as of September 2026. Services built for bills and subscriptions

Rocket Money is the best-known. Premium members can have it cancel many subscriptions for them, but not ones billed through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku or PayPal (Rocket Money). Its bill negotiation charges 35% to 60% of the first year's savings, and only if it succeeds (Rocket Money); its Premium+ tier includes negotiation with no fee (Rocket Money). In August 2026 it began rolling out Rowan, a texting agent, to some members (PR Newswire).

Pine AI calls, emails and waits on hold for you to cancel services, get refunds and negotiate TV, internet, phone and insurance bills in the US and Canada. It's free to try, and for bill negotiation it charges a share of what it saves you, only if it saves you money (Pine).

Subpilot is a subscription app that cancels subscriptions for you and sells extra cancellations as one-off top-ups (Subpilot). DoNotPay still sells cancellation tools; in 2025 the FTC finalised an order against it over its "AI lawyer" claims (FTC), and some recent reviews complain about stuck cancellations and unexpected charges.

Meta says its Muse agent can lower a bill, and Instinct says its new calling service can sort out a cable bill, but neither publishes results.

When an assistant you text is enough

A lot of cancellations don't need a negotiator. They need someone to write the email or click through the settings page. An assistant that can use your email and a browser can do that.

Arlo can:

• Write the cancellation or refund email from your own Gmail or Outlook, quoting the account details it finds in your inbox. It shows you the email and sends it only when you say yes.
• Go through a company's cancellation page in a browser session, using a login you save once. If you ask it to cancel something online, it signs in and works through the steps.
• Remind you to chase it if the company doesn't reply, and draft the follow-up.
• Call the company. It presses through the phone menu, waits on hold, turns down retention offers unless you say otherwise, and asks for the cancellation date and confirmation number. You can also ask it to check any final charge.

To lower a bill, give Arlo your limit, say "see if they'll go under $60 a month, otherwise cancel". On the call it asks for promotions and loyalty discounts, mentions a competitor's price if you give one, and asks for the retention team if the first answer is no. It won't agree to a new plan, fee or contract you didn't allow; for anything outside your limit, it texts you and waits for your answer.
